• Inside Scoop: Live Music

Tue Aug 18 17:39:24 GMT 2009 Portland Style Unveiled

Live music has the unique ability to create a mood all its own, from the sophisticated charm of a string quartet to the adrenaline rush of a full band paying tribute to your favoriterock songs. Although your investment in live music is generally two to three times the cost of DJ-mixed music, a killer band will almost always fill the dance floor until the proverbial house lights go out. Things to Consider: First, decide if music is a priority to you. If you aren't planning on much dancing and don't have a preference between live music and recorded, cost will generally sway most couples to stick...

  • Finding live music: Eight tips

    Thu Nov 29 06:45:00 PST 2007 AisleDash

Looking for live music can be a complicated task. Once you've narrowed down your search to two or three groups, here are some things to consider:1. Book early! The better the band, the farther ahead you need to book them.2. Some say that you should pick a band which specializes in weddings. I can see why, but I wonder if a band that does a variety of venues wouldn't have a more varied repertoire, and might be willing to think outside the box a bit. If, however, you are a traditional gal who likes the traditional box just fine, this is probably good advice for you.3. If you meet with a company...

  • The Music

Fri Mar 13 09:00:36 PDT 2009 Elizabeth Anne Designs

{Image from Wikipedia} The Music is the 3rd pillar of our wedding reception triumvirate. Crucial because of the role of music in guiding the tone and the pace of the evening yet difficult to execute. At a house party anyone can get up and stick on a song and the music becomes a way to express oneself and have an immediate impact on everyone else at the party. It is also a big catalyst for conversation (and sometimes argument) and has the (both positive and negative effect) of polarizing the group. The danger of being too prescriptive with music for a wedding is that it inhibits these natural ...

  • Ceremony Music

My absolute favorite thing from A s wedding was her ceremony. When the chapel doors opened, and she appeared to live music, it was impossible not to cry. So I knew the second I started planning that Iwantedto find an acousticguitarist in Atlanta for our ceremony. The style of music was very important, as we definitely wanted non-traditionalsongs for our event. Enter Ches Eaton, a fabulous find. Believe it or not, I came across Ches via MySpace. MySpace Music is actually a great tool to find local artists, and I was able to hear demos of him that he had uploaded as we...

Sun Apr 20 07:10:00 PDT 2008 little winter bride

belathee photographyAnother detail to make your wedding little more unique, is having a special musical guest. We were lucky to have good friends of ours, Au Revior Simone, play a little concert at our wedding. We had them play 4 songs just after the cake and then it was back to the full on dance party.....If your planning having a dj or playing music via ipod, which are a lot cheaper then hiring a full on band, having a little musical guest play a couple of songs can be a nice balance and addition to your cocktail hour. A great way to find musicians, is to look at your local bars\restaurants...
